Shanin Kanik, owner of the EVIL KANEEDLE Tattoo Studio in Vöhringen – Germany in an interview with Papaya Jack. She started tattooing after leaving her work as Art Director due to the constant buzzing of her friends who insisted that she give it a try.
S: I was addicted to tattoos since I was a young child. My father is a Muslim, he wasn’t too exited about it. Today he is very proud of me and visits me as often as he can in my own tattoo shop. The rest of my “family”, well, it’s a difficult thing, they don´t live in the reality… they think now money grows out of my ass.
PJ: How many tattoos you have?
S: I stopped counting…for me – it’s just one!
PJ: How about the first Tattoo?
S: I was 18 years old because, of course my parents didn’t allow it earlier. Since then, I made a lot of friends who are tattoo artists. For about 2 years I heard everyday: “why don’t you start tattooing?”
PJ: And how did you start then?
S: I was working for 13 years as an Art Director, when in December 2011 I left my job and became a tattoo artist. The transition was easy, I’ve never tattooed on pigskin or something like that. My first tattoo was on my own skin. I did the first 4 on my legs and they turned out pretty good!
PJ: Best thing at this job?
S: My favorite part of the job is traveling all over the world, meeting new interesting people with whom I can share and gather knowledge…
Who inspires me? LIFE!
PJ: Big Tattoos or Small Tattoos?
I prefer big ones.
PJ: Side Projects?
Yes I have! But at this moment I can’t say something about it – so stay tuned! 😉
PJ: Thanks for that interview shanin!
